Been working on my buddies 450-400 NTE 3 in. Have tried a few different bullets. The Woodleighs seem to be the most consistent. Have shot several groups with this load that are the same group size. 67.5 grains of RL 15 with kynock filler, hornady case & Fed 215 primer. Pretty happy with the results.

Nice group. Do you know which holes are from the left and right barrel and what is the velocity? It's helpful to know if the bullets are crossing. Have you shot that load at 100yds?

Same load works great in my K-gun, however I use the 3/8 foam backer material from HomeDepot which comes in a 20-25 ft. roll and is super easy to fashion to correct length by cutting with a razor blade. With RL=15 the foam plug is about 9/16 long and when compressed by the bullet seems to fill and void the air space above the powder. No residue, no fowling using Hornady for practice and North Fork and Woodleigh for hunting. PS I also like the Swift A-Frame, good patterns, 1.5 inches at 50 yds, no crossing. Tetonka DRSS

163bc what velocities are you achieving with 67.5? I'm loading 69.5 in the 3 1/4 and around 2125-2135 with Woodleighs. That is some great shooting with your load. Wouldn't change a thing.

Good success with your loads. Looks like you are there.

They don't seem to be crossing. The top 2 rounds were the 1st 2 fired. Left barrel on left and then right. Same thing with bottom 2 shots. Left barrel on left then right. Saw the same pattern in several other groups too.

I use 76.4 gr of IMR 4831 with a Woodleigh 400 gr soft or solid. This is the load Butch Searcy used to regulate my 450/400 double, and it does not require any type of filler or wad. Another load that has worked for me is 74.0 gr IMR 4831 with a CEB 400 gr solid. Both of these loads use Hornady brass and Federal 215 primers. However, based on your target, you may not in fact have any problem that needs to be solved!

Center-to-center looks like about 1.5" on the two farthest holes... That's good shooting with coarse open sights at 50 yards. I say you're done.

I can vouch for Chris' (New Guy) loads as I have shot his 450-400NE Heym double rifle with his hand loads. That rifle is very accurate and his hand loads regulate perfectly in that rifle! The 450-400NE 3 in is one of my all time favorite chamberings. ..................................................................... ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

My fav DR caliber too, and I can tell you that RL15 loads kick less than 4831, and they both regulate perfectly. It defies the laws of gravity. Physics; one of those.

I used IMR-4831 with 400 grs bullets, usually Woodleighs or North Fork cup points, love those cup points on buffalo..I liked RL-15 but found 4831 more accurate and at 2150 FPS in one rifle and 2122 in another, and both shoot to the same POI making ammo interchangeable..That said Ive sold both rifles recently as I no longer need a double. Doubt that I'll be returning to Africa again, the flight is a bitch on these 82 year old bones and depleted muscles..Ill stay home and team rope steers with the kids, hunt deer and elk behind the house with my 250 savage etc..Was a hell of ride however. Gents Preparing for another buffalo cull hunt in Australia. Taking my V-C .450/.400 3". I hand load. Conspicuous by is absence is any mention of Hornady DGX bullets. Any problems with performance? FYI, using 69 gr. RL 15 with 5/8" long 1/2" OD backer rod filler at an instrument velocity of 2,126 FPS out of a 25" barrel. Thanks in advance.
