Gentlemen , my VC 600 has at long last reached my country. To say that I'm excited is an understatement Smiler I'm obviously going to start reloading for it. I have studied some of the data that some of our members here that are competent in reloading the 600 have posted.
I have one or 2 questions .
The barrel dimensions on the 600 is .518 , yet the CEB bullets that I have are .620 . As far as I know all their other bullets are barrel dimension compatible. Why do this on a monolithic bullet ? will this not create excessive wear and strain on the barrels ? I can understand this on a copper jacketed lead bullet that gives more.

Are there any of our South African members that have loaded for the 600 with local somchem powders ? info would be appreciated.

Jan, you mean .618, right? For loading, I would contact CCMDoc here. He's had a 600 NE for a while, and has developed loads that work well in his Verney Caron double.

Jan, shoot the CEB bullets. At only 1,900 fps or so and with a big .620 frontal area, you need them to get optimum penetration.

Jan,

Cal has experience far beyond mine and his books are excellent - I have them and they are great.

Here's what I have as far as load data for you. Works well for me but as always, start 10% lower and work your way up.

Load 1
Bullet: CEB 900 grain solid
Case: 2x Fired HH
Powder: W760 - 142 grains
Primer: Federal 215
Velocity over Oehler 35P: 1,995fps

Load 2
Bullet: CEB 900 grain solid
Case: 2x fired HH
Powder: Accurate 4350 - 150 grains
Primer: Federal 215
Velocity: 2,010fps

I have some others with CEB Non-Cons, Woodleigh softs, GSC FN, robgunbuilder 733grain Crayola tips etc. but found these to put bullets from both barrels in the same place with plenty of authority.

Again, Cal is the person on whom I would most rely for expert advise.

Best of luck!

Many thanks to everyone who are helping me out with this . Both the site posts and PM's are appreciated. Isn't this what AR is about ?

I am no double rifle expert ...

What was the rifle regulated for? Would VC give you that info & MV? I would start there.

Also PM Srose here on AR. He has a lot of DR experience & a friend of his has a Jeffery 600NE (that I have shot). Sam introduced that friend to DRs & he might have even played a part in developing loads for that rifle.
