Guys, I am in the process of completing a .450 Dakota which I should be getting from AHR in February. However, I think my next gun will be a double of some kind. Can anyone give me some tips as to the best place to actually look over and handle a bunch of different doubles? Do they usually have bunch of different vendors at the Dallas Gun Show? How about the Safari Club Annual Show? Where is the best place to so a guy can actually handle the various guns from Blaser, Merkel, Krieghoff, Heym, etc. to get a feel for what each one is like?

George Caswell of Champlin Firearms always has a nice spread on his tables, in Dallas. Although I've never been to Reno I understand that the selection is vast.

On a scale of 1-10, Dallas about a 7 and SCI about a 9.99. Of course if you want to fly to central Florida....and who doesn't during the winter...I can let you shoot a Demas 450/400, a K-gun in 500/416 and a Searcy in 450 3.25" NE. And while you're at it, I'll let you touch off some 404 Jeff's and 500 Jeff's from my Heym bolt guns.

Gary, I might just take you up on that. My brother lives in Freeport and my wife and I have always talked about coming down to see him in the winter. Any chance we can get the gal on the pink Harley there too?

DSC is not bad, Binfeld firearms show in Vegas is very, very good I think it is the 16-18th lots of stuff if you know what your looking at.

Reno is very good too, lots of eye candy, although you will find your self wanting a H&H, Westley Richards, FAMARS, or Purdy everything else will pale in compare.

Why not visit George in person at www.champlinarms.com at Enid OK, airport?

You'll see more old & new doubles in Vegas at the Beinfield show than anywhere else.

Does Beinfeld post a catalog of what is to be auctioned? I couldn't find one. It would be nice to be able to place absent bids.

If you do the Reno SCI show you can also stop by and look at all pretty toys at the ACCG Exposition, which is Reno at the same time.

The Beinfield Vegas show is two shows held across the hall from each other, the International Sporting Arms Show and the Antique Arms Show, not an auction. Some very cheap airfares are available now to Vegas, $130RT from Houston for example.
