After months of contemplating a new double, I finally made a decision.

I've looked at the 450/400, 500/416, even the 450NE. But I love my 500NE. I just couldn't convince myself that I would ever leave the 500NE at home, taking the smaller caliber to Africa instead. Each time I thought I had a decision, I ended up with more questions.

I also went back and forth between the VC and Searcy. I had really made up my mind to go with the Searcy but after seeing that VC, PH round body with Case Color at DSC, I just couldn't get it out of my mind! Damn, I hate being wishy washy!

So the winner is: The Round Body VC in 500NE! Ordered it yesterday and am leaving the hotel room here at the SCI show right now to deliver the check to Ken.

Finally, a decision that leaves me with no questions! I look forward to the build process and posting progress reports. Should be 8 to 9 months. This gives me one more trip with the Merkel before it goes on the market as I have a hunt with CMS in October. If anyone might be interested in that rifle, please PM me.

Excellent choice, then again I have a VC in CCH too! I got mine in six months almost to the day so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and delivery times. Congrats!

Take some pictures so we can see what these round bodies look like.

The Verney-Carron doubles, not Ken, that is ... rotflmo

Will do Paul. I think you're going to like it. Looks completely different as the stock is also rounded to blend with the action!

I'll post the pics this evening.

Congrats Todd, that is the very same rifle/chambering that I bought in Dallas.

A beautiful, well balanced and well made firearm in anyone's language.

It's going to be a loooong hard wait !

Paul.

congratulations, Todd. Now you will start to exhibit severe signs of anxiety, night sweats, loss of concentration, and just because you can't hold it and drool yet.
Good on ya Navy!

That's ok. I'll just keep on sleeping with the
Merkel until time to trade the old girl. Cool

Way to go Todd! Sounds like a great gun. How do they compare in price to the regular VC?

I have some plans for a new gun too. Will let you know on Monday.

So does the 500NE come with the same sized V-C action as a 450NE?

Hmmmm! I don't know! Good question. I'll ask Ken tomorrow unless he comes on here tonight and comments. I think the show is wearing him out though. He looked beat when I saw him last night at the elevators.

My inclination is to say no. I think it is the 500 action but rounded. It does however, feel much better in the hand than my Merkel for example.

If you go to the VC profile on Facebook there are 2 photos of the round bodies. One has the original body in the background so its a nice comparison. The other day I posted a request there and a few hours later Guilaume posted them. I'll have to wait until next year to actually see one of them to decide which version I prefer since I couldn't make it to Vegas SCI this year.

Congrats Todd. I really like that rifle.

If I were not paying on lion, lord derby, leopard and five buffalo in three countries, I'd have one too!

Thanks Johan, PM sent to you.

Will? Can't believe you'd give up the bolt trash!! Smiler Nice meeting you at the show. Good luck on your hunts, especially the Lion!!

FFNE, I really would suggest waiting until you can compare the two in person as the feel is what really sold me on the RB.
