Just curious to see who likes what and why? I should add, from the ones that you own or used and had some shooting experience with.

Three that come to mind are a Jeffery .450/.400, a Westley Richards .470, a Searcy .470 and my all time favorite a Gustave Genschow .500/.465.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Pick one up, pull it apart and shoot it.
Even without shooting it you should be able to decide. Like knowing that an Aston Martin is a favourite car (even pre owned)without driving it.

Shootaway

How about something that has been posted heaps of times on AR and other forums.

Fit, finish, feel, balance and pointability.

I want something very specific.Anyone can say it feels better or it fits me better. Also,I dont care for a name. For example, the trigger is located to the rear of the trigger guard and therefore my index finger is saved from recoil and hitting against the rear of the trigger guard.

Jesus shootaway, you ask a question, it gets answered, you ask another one, it gets answered,
then you say "anybody can say that".

Compare my WR's to my Merkel.

New Merkel is a bit like two railway sleepers welded together.

The WR's, a 26" 500/465 Boxlock, it just has
it when in the hands - everything I said in my post above.

My WR 500 Nitro, again, it just has it.

Honestly,

I find that an older english scottish double is well balanced and more slender than a lot of modern made doubles. They can be like a piece of lumber. Like the shotgun you have been patterning.

Depends on whether it is my money being spent, or your treat.

I have owned a Kreighoff Big Five in 500 NE, a Searcy 470NE and one of his Red Label conversions in 45-90, a Chapuis in 9,3x74R, and one of the Baikals in 45-70. With the exception of the Baikal, all were well made and a joy to shoot.

I have shot many others, up thru Big Doggy 700's Owens 4-bore. That one reminded me of the Carol King song "I felt the Earth move, under my feet...".

IMHO, dollar for dollar, you cannot beat Butch Searcy's doubles. Very well made, esthetically pleasing, and the builder is very available, on the phone, or in person for the nickel tour, in Boron, CA.

The Chapuis I owned was a very light, well balanced rifle. It swung like a good 20gauge, which size frame it is built on.

Your treat:

I want Searcy third rising bite (Bissell) doubles in 450 3 1/4" and 500 NE. Add me a Chapuis just like the one I had, with DST and scope mounts for a 2-7X Leupold.
My world is complete, and there is nothing on this earth I am over or undergunned in pursuit.

My $$$:

the Searcy PH doubles in the same calibers, and the tidy little Chapuis.

If you are looking to purchase a double I can save you a lot of money. Get a 10 ga. SxS shotgun, tape some sights on it, then shoot a load of 00 buckshot. That way you will get a group with one shot that would normally take you 18 rounds to duplicate if you were using your rifle. Granted the spread might be a bit tighter with the 10 ga. but it will make you look like your shooting is improving. rotflmo
