WW Greener Double Rifles
Did they make very many? Did they make them in larger calibers like .450 and up?

I saw a 450/400 recently and it was a beautiful rifle.

I just don't see that name associated with rifles often and it got me wondering.

My impression is that they didn't make a lot of double rifles.
I owned one in 360 No.2 built on Greener's Facile Princeps action (as most of the nitro doubles are).
They are generally of very high quality but I think lag a bit in the market because they are not as common or well known as Webley screw grip boxlocks.

Given the lack of information I can find on ye' olde internet. You must be right. Not many rifles.

I did find a neat WW Greener cape gun on Gunbroker. 12ga/.500-.450 #1 (black powder, I think). Very cool.

One of the finest .600 dobles was made by Greener.

I have see a couple. One was 450/400 and the other may have been 375 Flanged. Both had steel bolsters that ran from the frame to the pistol grip.

The checkering on the wood stock was neatly matched with the checkering in the steel bolster.

Greener made double rifles but certainly not many. A friend that lives in Darwin, Oz, has a couple of them in .450/400 NE and another friend here in SA has one in .310 Cadet.

Greener were primarily shotgun makers, and they made them in all grades, from very cheap to very expensive.

Huvius, did your .360 have the self acting/Needham ejectors or was it an extractor model?

I’ve got a Facile Princep 12 bore with ejectors. Very cool shotgun with one issue if a ham fisted person was to not pay attention. The issue at least with my gun is it ejects before it cocks, the opposite of any other ejector gun. If one doesn’t open the barrels all the way to cock it, you can’t close it...at least not without breaking things if forced closed or just opening further to cock it. In a hurried reload, this could cause issue.

One of those designs I wouldn’t mind making, but only in extractor model for double rifles. A very strong action! A single shot with the ejectors would be cool too.

Mine was an extractor only gun iirc.
Automatic safety too which I hated.

Does anyone know of any Greener facile Princeps double rifles with ejectors?

I did come across this WW Greener .600 NE: http://www.sitemason.com/page/etw2D6

Wonderful rifle. It has the reinforcing straps mentioned above and check out the matted barrels.

For some reason, I find the snap action rifles to be perfect in shape. The smooth top and shorter grip look right to me.

That is a very fine rifle. Not the typical Greener cross bolt action that I would have expected. It actually looks very trim for 600NE.

I have one of their 450/400 3 1/4". Extractors.

Build start 2/25/1909, finish 12/26/1909, per Greener. 9 1/2#, accurate and easy on the shooter.

Hello Jeremy,

Here's some info on my Greener 450. Nice thing is that factory information is still available.

I have a Greener Facile Princeps chambered in .450/400 3-1/4" NE that is equipped with ejectors. A superb rifle, made about 1928, that remains in almost mint condition.
