Buff, ele's,---might want to ream it to .450no2 first.
I'm thinking of getting one and doing the conversion. However, it's a gamble with the regulation. A gamble that some may find is not worth it in the end. I've heard both good and bad stories.
But, as is, it is a , Good, very good, purchase.

Is this crazyhorse's 45/70? When it arrives, just get some ammo and shoot it. Then go out and shoot something with it.

Congratulations!

That is a nice rifle. You ought to plan on joining us for a DRSS hunt. That 45-70 is hell on hogs.

Welcome to the DRSS.

My brother had a Pederosoli 45/70 for a while. It shot great with every load we tried.

We contacted the factory and they advised us that it was safe with ANY load that was safe in a Marln Lever, to include the Buffalo Bore, Corbon, Garrett, etc.

I also shot Perrys Ped. 45/70 and it too shot great.

Keep us posted on how she shoots.

I shot Jim Wooten's (which he bought for a song!) and it was as accurate as we could hold it. The first two shots at 50 yards with a 400 grain lead cast bullet at 1400 fps touched. Boy, you should have seen the smile on Jim's face.

I think they are fun and useful rifles within their intended purpose.

Most folks will recommend reaming out to .450 no.2, but you may want to consider .450 Nitro Express 3 1/4", too... if you wish to end up with an "African" rifle. I've heard of two conversions to N.E. (Perry, of this forum, being one). I don't believe that he needed any re-regulation and a P.H. now uses the rifle for Elephant back up in Mozambique?

What is the DRSS hunt? If it has to do with pigs I'm all for it. Altho our last Texas trip this past month was a bust.

Rolland, the DRSS is:
Double Rifle Shooter's Society

There are no dues, or formal meatings, other than a couple of Hog hunts/shooting fun, with or double rifle each year. We have members from all over the USA, and a couple in other countries, in Europe, and Africa. Our next hunt is June 15-18 2007 at the 4K ranch at Brady, Texas! Last Jan we had 11 hunters take 14 hogs in one afternoon. Smallest was 140 lbs, and the largest was 289 lbs. Fun get togethers, of good friends, who have a common interest in owning, and shooting double rifles!

To see some pictures, and a description go to page 9 odf this forum, and scroll down to a post by 577NitroExpress, titaled: January 2007 DRSS huntat Brady, Texas

That sounds like fun, unfortunately I have to go in the hospital for some surgery so I won't be up to speed for June. Altho I would like to get in on another one perhaps later. dancing
