Bison with Demas .577 NE
gerryb and myself used his Demas .577, purchased from Kebco on this site, to shot Bison on a private ranch in Texas. The gun was a blast to shot nd performed great.

This was mine

This was gerryb's bull

Recoverd bullets from my bull, solid penetrated the entire length of bull. We think gerryb's first shot penetrated was a pass through not sure of the second. The bush was quite thick and it was hard to get a clear shot without hitting brush. I am sure both these bullets hit brush.

thanks changed it to Kebco, the recoil is not as bad as you might think, the gun is just over 13 lbs. did not even feel the recoil while shooting. We have the shots on video trying to figure how to post the videos.

That's a big boy shootin' that piece, but you're right.....it doesn't appear to be that bad. So I assume you all like that rifle?

yes it is nice. May be a bit heavy for a serious hunt. Did the video work?

A great use for a DR in the US. Hope you kept the meat.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Wow! It took two from a 577 NE to drop the bison, I would not have thought that.

No they did not need two. I was suprised that the Bison showed no response to the shot, i.e. bucking, jumping, etc. they both turned and walked away. I am sure both would have fell in the same place with only one shot.

Where did the first shot land? How big were these guys, weight, horn, etc. Sounds like you had a great time, and thank you for the videos.

Anybody wanting to do the same, a rancher here in Arizona does 3-5 a year for about 1500.00. Three to four year old. You get everything and a butcher is close. Usually October, the meat is amazing. I did one last year with a 50BMG.
Anybody? GarBy? Drook?

Look at his website, it is quite a tourist place out on 40 by Joseph City. Its called the Rock Art Ranch. It has Indian petroglyphs dated back as far as 8000 years! an amazing place.
Take a look and let me know if your interested.
Probably october.

Hey, Steve....just saw this post. If I can figure out how to get the meat back here for less than $20 a pound, I might like to "harvest" one of those babies....I love bison meat.
