A local shop has one in new condition in .30/06for $750 with a 1.5-5 Leupold. Are they worth that and will it be a PITA?

I would say it is worth that.

Triggers will need work. Would make a fun water jug rifle. Hog and deer rifle. It isn't a $10,000 double but worth that price if you want to fool with one.

As usual just my $.02

Well I have two of them. Your deal comes with a $350 scope, which makes the rifle a steal. Mine are more accurate than another of my small bores, an 8mm chapuis that won't keep two shots in 4 inches at 50 yards. The Baikals are easily adjustable; for lateral shots and can be adjustable for elevation if you are good. I would buy it. I did restock mine though. The next nearest double rifle will cost you $6k. My 30-06 easily shoots all shots into one inch at 50 yards.

I have to agree with dpcd! The first one I saw brought down to the ranch for one of the DRSS pig hunts by ROSCO was a real surprise to me because of the looks considering its price point! His was very accurate. I too would buy the rifle the OP is looking at. At that price it is a steal!

Dcpd,

I bought the gun. Could you post photos of your restocked gun?

Ive made it this long without one, and had a birthday this week, so I'll pass based on looks if nothing else.

VOL717 congratulations on your new rifle enjoy it.

Those are my thoughts too.
dpcd is very right, you have bought your self a good solid reliable rifle, I own two of these and both shoot extremely good both started as 30-06, done a lot of tweaking to them restocked one and converted the other to a 30R blazer that puts 6 shots out of booth barrels in 2 3/8" at 100 meters R to R and L to L 1" appart.

Best regards
