In 1980 I was working on the family farm and wanted a double rifle bad. With little money I saw an add in SHOTGUN NEWS that stated that you could have a double rifle made by lining the bores of a doublebarrel shot gun, cost was $400.00. I had a little A. Zolli 20 ga. so I sent it to him, Terrance Mayfield in WARNER ROBINS GA. We had phone contact for several months then nothing. I gave it up for lost but never forgot about it. About two weeks ago I saw the little gun on GUNBROKER. I sent and email to the person selling it and told them the story. In a few days they wrote back and ask me a few questiones about what I was doing in 1980 and such. He then got back to me and ask where I wanted the gun sent to. I was amazed. In a few days I recieved the little rifle a 44 mag double rifle from Terrance Mayfield. A truly honest man, hard to find nowdays. I an very gratefull to him and wanted to relate this story to other DR lovers. Shoot first. Never trust horses or women and very few mules.

Wow. It would be interesting to get the story of the last 33 years. Think Mr. Mayfield would mind some positive recognition in the form of a letter or e-mail?

Why did he keep your gun for 33 years? Sorry, but there seems to be much missing from this story of an honest man!

Congrets on your new found old rifle, I can understand you wanting to point out the honesty of the man, which is true he could as well shrugged you off, Back then there was no emails or anything to trace and prove owner ship etc. But yes I must agree, there is a lot missing in that story. Please share some pix. Best regards Malek Good shooting/hunting and God's best Best regards Malek Good Hunting/Shooting and God's best.

Mr. Mayfield was in the military and was shipped out to several forign lands leaving his wife to make several moves around the country and in the process lost info on some of the guns he had taken in. That was the story he related to me. He was very happy to make this reunion A fine man indeed. Shoot first. Never trust horses or women and very few mules.

No Doc. I live south of Gainesville. I told Jack and Charly. Had the gun shipped there cause they only have a $25 transfer fee. It crosses at about ten yards but I an working up a few different loads to get the cross further out. If I can't work it out I'll take it to JJ in Enid. It is a sweet little gun with an amazimg story. Shoot first. Never trust horses or women and very few mules.

BULL, at the risk of starting another 400 post pissing contest, let me just state one little fact! A double rifle is not supposed to cross at ANY range, but shoot the centers of each barrel’s individual group parallel to the other barrel and on it’s own side of the aiming point on the target. The way to find proper regulation is to fire two four shot groups from each barrel all shots fired from room temperature barrels firing right and left, letting the barrels cool between each pair. A double rifle is designed to be fired from cool barrels for the first two shots, because it is a HUNTING rifle. Because of this the only way to find the true regulation is all shots fired from cool barrels, and find the CENTERS of each barrel’s individual group. Find the center of each barrel’s CENTER of group for each barrel in relation to the point of aim on the target. This is best done by firing each barrel on it’s own target placed side by side on the back frame using the same point of aim on each target. This way it is much easier to find the CENTER of GROUP for each barrel in relation to the aiming poit on the target. If the rifle is shooting properly, each barrel’s CENTER of it’s individual group should remain on it’s own side of the aiming point on the target. The CENTERS of each barrel’s individual group is what you need to move, not bullet holes! It is simply a fallacy that a double rifle is supposed to cross all shots at any given range. The statement by the maker that a rifle ir regulated for a given range only means the SIGHTS are REGULATED for proper ELEVATION and WINDAGE at that range, not that the shots should cross at that range. Now let the comments begin, I'm gone! ......................................................................... ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Fascinating story, if you wish AYA will make you a 20 bore shotgun with an extra set of barrels in .44 Rem Mag (barrels made and regulated in Belgium but cost for the rifle barrels is a bit high . It would make a sweet monteria double though, best, Mike
