I would appreciate your help in locating some chrome or nickel silver 45-70 snap caps for my Siace double rifle. I have had some on order for months only to find out that they have been discontinued by Galazan. A google search turns up nothing. Thanks. Bob N.

Kreighoff has Kynoch snap caps in several NE calibers.
http://www.krieghoff.com/shop/....php?products_id=708
I didn't see 45-70 listed though...might contact them...
Also try "Orvis" or "Trader Keith's".
Hope this helps, ND

Thank you for the advice. I am trying to find some nickel silver ones or something similar. Does not look promising. Bob N.

Brownell's carry A-Zoom brand, machined from solid aluminum, with a synthetic primer insert. Part # is 187-000-021. Price is $9.98. You could buy a pair of these, disassemble the primer assembly, and have a local plater, plate the aluminum body in whatever finish you desire.

I have a lot of A-Zoom snap caps, but the plastic primer insert seems rather soft. It does not bother me in a $1,000 rifle or pistol, but in my $7,000 double I am a little more cautious. Wouldn't plating the A-Zooms possibly increase the diameter to a point where they would not chamber, and then I still have the primer pocket issue to resolve. The Galazan snap caps had a much better primer pocket insert of "leaded brass" according to their website. Thanks. Bob.

Plating would only add a thou or two at most, not enough to prevent chambering. Anybody with even just a little UniMat lathe could make you up new inserts out of brass in no time.
