Well, after a few months of anticipation, I got "the call" from JJ.........my Heym re-bore from 458 WM to 450 31/4" with improved sights and a new pad is about done! He told me what I thought I already knew (but he's the expert)...it's in absolutley perfect mechanical conditon. I had him take it down, do a thorough cleaning and an overall checkup while it was there. 2 thumbs up! For those that don't remember, this double was purchased used from Gander Mountain for $9100 which included matching 12 gauge barrels with fore arm wood that appears to be cut from the same piece. I have about 50 rounds of Woodleighs loaded up of various loadings to see which works best.

Thanks to new guy for gently encouraging me to make this purchase....he actually said, "don't buy it, but tell me where it is"...that's when I suspected it was a good deal.

Anyway, the weather is beautiful, the range is always open, and my new baby is almost home. Once I find her perfect diet, I'll post the results.

They need to put your picture on a wanted poster - that was a steal!

I looked at that gun in Dallas at SCI and loved it. I love that cartridge. I had great success with RL15 and Woodleighs as well as Kynoch original.

Gary,
You have one hell of a rifle for the money...

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Thanks, gents. Yes I was quite happy with the purchase and JJ just confirmed my thoughts by his words today. Whoever owned it before me never had the shotgun barrels on the frame...there are absolutely no marks on them whatsoever.
That double is as finely balanced as I've seen....if someone could do better with a "custom fit"...the gun would have to go hunting itself.
Dutch, RL15 and Woodleighs is what I'll be feedin' her shortly. I'm going to try to get about 2100 plus out of her with those 480 softs and solids...hopefully it'll happen.

Thanks for the comments....I'll post once the triggers fall....

Very cool. Did JJ shoot the rifle with the new chambering? If so then I guess he didn't need to re-regulate it..?

Just wondering how that works.

-Steve

[edit: sorry, didn't read the entire thread. Still interested in how this works and if it shoot's well with the new chambering]

Thanks, Rusty....I'm a happy camper...or shooter I guess is more appropriate.
Steve, as I understand it, JJ did fire it and did not need to regulate. I did have him put a warthog ivory front site on it as well as putting a vertical silver line on the rear site including a bit of a re-shape into a shallow V....I prefer this.
As far as shooting well?? That will be tasked to yours truly when she returns to me on Friday. I have a variety of loads in softs and solids loaded to try out....I'll post photos of the gun and results as soon as available.

T577

It is a Heym 88 double and was originally a 458 WM with a matching set of 12 ga shotgun barrels and matching fore arm wood. I don't have the final tally from JJ, but I believe the new red pad, new front sight of warthog ivory, a rework of the rear sight, a thorough cleaning and check-up, plus, of course, the rechamber to 450 31/4" NE cost about $500 plus shipping.
I have before pics of the gun, but I'll take some once I get it back and post.

Thanks.
