LL Bean has been making the Maine Hunting Shoe- (boot pacs) since about 1911. They wear like iron and are water-snow proof. Excellent for duck-goose hunting. Top quality leather uppers in sizes from 10 in up to 16 in. The bottom rubber pacs are excellent. A few years ago they re-introduced the almost pure red rubber bottom pacs. They are famous for their tough long wearing qualities and can be repaired by LL Bean if the bottoms wear. An ad from the 1950s in O Life or Field & S offered bottom replacement repair for $5. The price have gone up for a pair but they are worth it. Made in Maine. I own 3 sets and have had a pair since my youth and our family has bought the Maine shoe for 90 yrs now. Buy them a bit large and wear 2 sets of light then heavier socks-like military OD wool socks. Feet remain dry & warm in cold weather. Avatar

Decades ago I got myself a pair of the uninsulated lightweieght LL Beand hunting boots. They fit like a glove, were very light and comfortable, quiet, and easy to walk in I loved them for years UNTIL one day while hunting for grouse with my dog The dog w entnon point and I walked in to flush through some rocky uneven ground covered by thick ferns. Wound up getting my left foot edged between two unmovable rocks the light soles allowing my foot to wedge way down causing severe pain. It took me quite a LONG while to remove my foot with the end result being damage to my foot that to this day after some 30 years still bothers me. Those boots were great for flat ground and quiet walking but the thin flexible sole was unable to protect my foot from getting wedged between those rocks. From that day forward a stiff sole was first in. Hunting boot for me.
