Q: What is the mark of a truly educated gentleman?

A: Anyone who can listen to the William Tell Overture, and not immeadiately think of the Lone Ranger!

I went into my boss's office one day and she had on a CD of "The Barber of Seville". I jokingly said, "You've got Bugs Bunny music on." and reminded her of the episode "The Rabbit of Seville".

She didn't understand. She's 4 years older than I am and had never seen it. I guess she was too educated and didn't grow up with Saturday morning cartoons like us common folk.

Sambar 9.3 and Fischer:

You have heard of the "barbarians at the gate" ? You're looking at him! Smiler I must confess to a lifelong shocking ignorance of music ( whether classical, modern or popular) I carry a thousand snatches of music in my memory banks and do not have to be forcibly restrained to hold still and listen to much music. I just lack a total education in music. I can recognize "Flight of the Bumble Bee" and that's about it. ( General Ulysses Grant said he knew two tunes. One was "Yankee Doodle Dandy -and the other wasn't. Did I mention that the General and I are related?) Smiler

Then there was the time in high school music class that the bandleader handed out new music "The Liberty Bell March".

We sight read it, and at the end of the first stanza, I blurted out "That's the Monty Python song!"

I will assume it wasn't written by Tom Pittman, their banjo and steel guitar player, or maybe it was. He has a pretty good sense of humour, hence his job.

I was told that a gentleman is a fellow who rests at least half his weight on his elbows.
