My grandfather tells the story of being in the court room when the judge was questioning prospective citizens. One was of scandinavian lineage and was asked by the judge what the symbol or emblem of the United States was. Recognizing that the citizen to be was clearly at a loss, the judge assisted by stating, 'you know, it flies over the court house' to which the foreigner replied. "AH I know dat, it's PEE-GINS"
