I overheard this at an army recruitment center one time talking about Marines ...

"The marines are just the ones the Army sends in when they don't want to risk any REAL soldiers."

Well, I'm certainly not going to claim it as mine ... there's no telling what any given recruiter will say to a prospect when they want him to sign up under their book.

About half my family is Marines, with the other half being about equal distribution Army and Navy.

As much as those three branches heckle and pester one another, it's amazing how galvanized they get when someone from the Air Force walks into the room.

My dad was a Navy corpsman stationed to a Marine field hospital somewhere in Da Nang.

He was an ambulance driver / medic. He came back from Vietnam with a purple heart, a distinguished service award, medal for heroism under fire, and a few others I don't recall. He doesn't talk about it much. These days he mostly goes to work and goes bowling.

My little brother's on his 11th year in the Navy now. Sometimes I think he's stationed to an airplane flying between DC, Nevada, and Korea, but he says he's stationed in DC.
