| Any other time an NCO does NOT like to be classed w/ the nose in the air crowd.Eons ago one of my sons joined the navy. He was + is a mechanic;he wanted the job as engine mechanic which was promised (THEY DO LIE).After B.T. he was informed that as his hearing was not up to the decible level (go figure that low hearing is any detriment in the engine room as it will be within 2 weeks). Anyway they said he would have to go to the regular seamans grade (scraping paint, etc. )He told them "No, by your own omission, you personally passed me to the job of mechanic on the physical that you provided + found me fit;now I'm not??? Strikes me that YOU have broken the contract." They sent him home. w/ an honorable ( I think they just wanted him out of their memory).he has always been a hardheaded little cuss that won't take crap from anyone.Quite proud of him actually.

| Norman Conquest--Not to flame with you. You are most likely correct that they wanted him out of their hair. I was an Air Force recruiter for 5 years. Several guys got to basic training and the Training instructor being in their face yelling at them and threatening to set them back and they have to repeat two more weeks basic training(That would seem a life sentence to an 18 year old)they would self eliminate. They would say they had lied to their recruiter and in fact had used drugs. The AF would give them honorable discharge and send them home. Folks back home would be told the AF lied to them, didn't give the job they were promised. This sounded good to the folks, but the recruiter knew the real story. Recruits are given a physical before they join. If there is a problem in a certain area they wont be given a job where that would be a problem. For example if a person wanted to be a fireman, but had a leg problem, they would not be offered a fireman job. If your son had suffered some hearing loss, it would not be detected at engine school unless severe. BTW even if your son went to engine school, while a lower rank he would be on detail doing such as deck swabbing, kp, paint scraping and painting. He'd also serve his time scrubbing engine floors etc. Making rank and someone else be doing those jobs would be something to look forward to. |

| "Sure was a lot of em" reminds me of the joke about the woman driving down the freeway + her husband calls her cel. phone + says,"Be careful, there's some idiot driving the wrong way on a 1 way freeway." She says," One, hell, there's thousands of them."
Never mistake motion for action.
