After 36 years this wife can still surprise me.

For years she has looked down her nose at hunting & fishing (& me) as if we were all three only somewhat lower than pond scum. More on a scale with whale poop, which as you all know is low enough to be right at the bottom of the ocean. (Not saying she hasn't always accepted my rather comfortable income, though.)

Anyway, I have continued to hunt, fish, & shoot, though not even once with the pleasure of her company.

Finally, last night, a hint of progress. Maybe my "frontier" values are seeping through her cranial orifices. (Probably not, but at this point any glimmer is a brilliant light at the end of a very long tunnel.) She presented me with a "refrigerator magnet" she saw at a store, thought was humourous, and figured I might like. I do; Here's what it says:

Action- The moving parts that allow a gun to be loaded and unloaded. On many hunts this is just about the only action to be found.

Bag Limit - The point beyond which a hunter begins to tune out his wife. (One of many examples: when she's complaining about all the time he spends hunting.)

Bore - Measurement of the interior diameter of a gun barrel. Also the endless hunting stories of the gun's owner.

Field Dressing - Something you definitely want to avoid ordering on your salad.

Guide- Someone who actually gets paid to go hunting! Kind of makes you want to go back and pummel your high school career counselor up-side the head, doesn't it?

Off Season - General term denoting all the unimportant days of the year.

Tree Stand - A high vantage point from which you can fully survey a beautiful natural setting completely devoid of deer.

Turkey Call - Use of a cell phone to complete a call to the local Deli one passes on the way home after an unsuccessful hunt.

Varmint - Any number of creatures occupying the "target practice" parts of the food chain.

Venison - A fancy word used to trick yuppie broads into eating deer meat.

Me too! the PH we hunt with in Zim emailed me about
crop raiders in his AO. It's all I can do to exercise fiscal restraint!
