Two deer hunters were on a ridge overlooking a highway when they spotted a trophy-class buck meandering towards them. As one hunter raised his rifle to shoot, a funeral procession emerged on the highway. The hunter then lowered his gun, took off his hat, and stood with his head bowed until the procession was past. Of course at that point the buck was gone. His hunting partner exclaimed "Wow! That was the most sportsman-like act I've ever witnessed! You allowed that magnificent buck to escape in order to show compassion and respect toward someone's dearly departed. You are a great humanitarian and a shining example of what sportsmanship represents!" The first hunter nodded and said; "Well, we were married for 42 years."
