Yes, those two little batteries did all that. There has to be a capacitor in the thing that stores up the voltage then lets it fly when the switch is activated. Capacitors don't have to be very big to pack quite a wallop. There is one in the back of your TV set; grabbing it in an imprudent way will send you to the morgue. If you ever see a TV set all shot to hell in a shootin' place, don't screw around with it-- just put more lead into it and be safe.
