Kids can be a joy...or sometimes something a bit else. Following is a true story:

About two weeks ago a very young male member of our family (Aden, age 4) was in Sweden attending the World Cup of Gran Prix Jumping. He was with his mother, grandmother, and aunt, to watch his father ride our horse in the competition.

Aden has always adored his dad, and tries to do everything his dad does. Of course, as best buddies they have also developed a sort of "code" they talk to each other, using it for "in" jokes, "secrets", etc.

Anyway at this event, which was held simultaneous with the annual Gothenburg jumping event, there was something Aden hadn't seen before in the U.S. and Canada...cheerleaders!! Beautiful blond, hard-bodied, young Swedish women, dressed to make their finest points obvious.

One has to understand that Aden had also been getting ready to travel a week or two after the World Cup, with his dad in France. So, In his young way he was trying to learn to pronounce names like "Roger" the French way (Roe-Jay).

Back to Sweden and the cheerleaders. So, everyone is sitting in the stands, as the young women run out one by one, to a stage, preparatory to starting the gala to follow. As one particular drop-dead stone-fox beauty runs out, it is dead silent. Then, a 4-year old voice (Aden's) was heard to yell. "Hey dad! Look at the boo-TAY (Booty) on that one!!


Well, afterwards I explained to Aden's aunt that his dad HAD worked hard teaching Aden to appreciate the finer things in life. And after all, it had been funny to watch who broke out in a big grin, and who frowned. Anyway, now we know anoher one of their father/son code-words......

I know what you mean about the Swedish women! I cam here for a one-year post-doc -- 13 years ago!

It can be downright distracting at times. As a university professor with classes full of hot Swedish babes, it takes a supreme amount of effort to control where my gaze wanders...
