A typically arrogant Englishman says to the Scot: " I have travelled through your miserable country. Take away your mountains, your glens and the lochs - and what do you have?" The Scot replies - " England". ( I said, earlier on this website as an Irishman that I would not tell any more jokes in favor of Scotland. However we Irish are also Celts -and besides I have fond family memories of we Irish arguing with Scots family friends. It's in their honor that I insult the English as well as we Irish, of course!)

Why do you consider the English to be 'typically arrogant' ? You remind me of gerald416 - also from NY and also a bit of an arsehole. All mushrooms can be eaten, but some only once.

British: I used the phrase "typically arrogant Englishman" with tongue in cheek. ( This is a "Humor" forum, isn't it?) I meant no intended insult to the English -as I don't in any jokes about the English. Believe it or not, this Irishman grew up in a family of Irish who cherished Scots AND English friends. (You may not be old enough to remember when there was a real "British Empire" on which "the sun never set" - A lot of that Empire was built by Scots mostly and some Irish, too - and no one ever accused the English of being shy shrinking violets in those days - hence I used the phrase to tease the English. It is not meant to describe actual Englishmen as an insult. If you took it that way, I apologize.
