This young blonde woman decided she was tired of all of the dumb blonde jokes, so one Sunday evening she dyed her hair red, like her smart roommate's. She felt much smarter the next morning, so she decided to start working out. She jogged down past the Dodge dealer a mile from her house and noticed a sign in the window that said "Promotion Special. Guess the number of pinto beans in the water cooler bottle and win a new Dodge!" She walks in and asks the salesman how the contest works. He tells her to guess the number of beans in the bottle and take any new Dodge off of the showroom floor for free. She walks around the bottle and writes 4316 down on the entry slip. The showroom is empty, so the salesman decides to have the manager come out and check her entry. When he does, 4316 is the correct number. She picks out a new Durango and drives off. This good fortune tempts her to take it for a drive up in the mountains for the day.

She is out in the Owyhees Mtns and comes across two Basque sheepherders with a flock of sheep. She stops to visit a minute and tells them of her good fortune. The younger one says "I bet you can't guess how many sheep are in this flock. If you can, you can have your pick of one sheep from the flock." She gets out of the Durango and stands for a minute looking at the flock. She turns to him and says "2783, counting those four new lambs near the creek bend." The young one turns to the old one to check. The Old Man takes his tallybook out of his vest and looks at it. He tells the young lady she is correct, and to take her pick. He also asks her how she knew. She says, "I speed counted the legs and divided by four. She then points at the one by the wagon, and says "I want that one."

The Old Man looks at the young herder, then back at the young woman. He says "If I can tell you what color your hair was before you dyed it, can I keep my dog?"
