What happened to me?

I used to think I was just a regular person, but I was born white, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.
I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards, makes me a fascist.
I am heterosexual, which now makes me a homophobe.
I am mostly non-union, which makes me a traitor to the working class and an ally of big business.
I was christened by my parents (who were married, in a church and remained married until they died), which now labels me asan infidel.
I am older than 65 and retired, which makes me useless.
I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.
I am proud of my heritage which makes me a xenophobe.
I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.
I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.
I (and most of the folks I know), acquired a fair education without student loan debts and little or no debt at graduation, which makes me some kind of an odd underachiever.
I believe in the defence and protection of the homeland for and by all citizens and I honour those who served in the Armed Forces, which now makes me a right wing-militant.
Please help me come to terms with the new me… because I'm just not sure who the hell I am anymore! I would like to thank all my friends for sticking with me through these seemingly abrupt, new found changes in my life and my thinking! I just can't imagine or understand what's happened to me so quickly!
Funny …it’s all just taken place over the last 7 or 8 years!
As if all this nonsense wasn’t enough to deal with… I’m not sure which restroom to go into..............

I think you're a bit "iffy" on that "think and reason" part :-)

"I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream media tells me"
but I believe as gospel everything on FOX News and Breitbart! How could this be?
Let me suggest a break from reading and posting on the AR PF! This is NOT the real world, but rather a reflection of a small part of it. Talk to real people OUTSIDE of your immediate circle of friends. You might well find that these people are not as bad as you think they are! I have several Republican friends and we have very good conversations and find much to agree upon. Unlike JTEX and his buddies they do not regard me as "the enemy", but, I am aware that JTEX and his buddies exist, so I carry a solution to that problem should it arise!

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may
be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all
persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull
and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare with others, you may become
vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons that yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own
career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world if full of trickery. But
let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high
ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not
feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and
disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield
you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many
fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be
gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and
the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no
doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in
the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham,
drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to
be happy.

Many on this forum will find this trite. I find much of it reassuring, but then, that is just me!
Peter.

Butchloc,

I know exactly how you feel. As far as which restroom to use I was also confused but I came up with a solution that I think covers all the bases.

I simply use the ladies' restroom, stand, and piss with the seat down.

That is a road map to how the mainstream media must treat Trump. When he or his minions lie, call them out on it. When they threaten to suspend freedom of the press, shine a light on their threats, and watch them skulk back off into the shadows of FOX News, Gateway Pundit, and the rest of the suck-ass, Russian-backed and just plain fake news outlets).

Talking to me?
1. That quote is not mine.
2. In this context "your" is incorrect. It is "you're", as in an abreviation for "you are".
3. So, I am not the enemy? Amazing what a mag full of 38 Supers will do to encourage amity!
You're welcome!
Peter.

I find, as a given thing, that people that resort of being "grammar Nazis" have little of value to say.
I do think, however, that quietly reciting Desiderata and really listening to yourself can bring a lot of peace.
