It's 1943 and the Germans are rounding up all the Polish men in a getto in Warsaw. One of the men runs off and 3 Nazi's go after him.
He manages to loose 2 of them in the narrow streets, but is finally cornered in a blind alley.
The Nazi is just taking aim, when all of a sudden there is a ray of light shining on the Pole. A voice booms out of the sky: 'You can't kill him, he has to become a pope one day!'
The German is startled at first, but quickly regains his posture. 'Befehl ist befehl' he says. 'If I don't shoot him, I run the risk of being shot myself!'
'OK!' booms the voice. 'I'll make you a deal. You can become pope after him, if you let him go'

I can't believe this myself, but I don't get it.
What is "befehl" supposed to be????????I can't make the connection for the word. Please explain it to me it is killing me. I concede it is over my head or I am just not thinking on the right track.

Orders are orders. Previous Pope was Polish, current Pope is German.
