Our beloved (half) black president was spending some time in a middle school English class. The teacher was looking to define the word, "tragedy."
Obama asked the definition and a young lady said, "If a school bus of kids went off the road and all were killed, that would be a tragedy." "NO," said Obama, "that would be an accident." A second student spoke up and said, "If a large ocean liner, like the Titanic, took on water, sank, and all were lost, that would be a tragedy." Obama, again, said it, "would not--that would be a great loss." The room was silent for a few minutes when a voice from the back of the room said, "If you and the first lady were flying in Air Force One and a terrorist missile shot the plane out of the air, would that be a tragedy?" "Yes," said the president, "it would be! And, for extra credit, can you tell me why it would be a tragedy?"
"Sure. Because it would not be an accident and it would not be any great loss!"
