Hip Surgery...

Two patients limp into two different doctors' offices with the same complaint: Both have trouble walking & may require hip surgery.

Patient 1. is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week.

Patient 2. sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another week & finally has his surgery scheduled for 6 months from then, pending the review board's decision on his age & remaining value to society.

Why the different treatment for the 2 patients?

The FIRST is a Golden Retriever taken to a vet.

The SECOND is a Senior Citizen on ObamaCare.

In November, if there is no change in government... we'll all have to find a good vet.

Odd! I thought senior citizens were on Medicare? Pray tell how much was paid out of pocket for each surgery?

I don't know what country xgrunt lives in, but in the USA the surgeons are very happy to schedule surgeries! After all, that's what they do! Full knee replacement, no problem! Got a cancellation for next week! No "death panels" here! Go Sarah!

Patient #1 has a rich owner who can afford to chose between putting the dog down or writing a check to cover the cost of surgery out of their own pocket.

When my wife had cancer we had to go to the family practice clinic on Friday just to hear them say "call the Oncology clinic on Monday". I was on hold with an Oncology nurse on Monday when my wife called and said the Oncology doctor called and told her to see him immediately. Rough start, but for a $600/year premium and no co-pays she got surgery/rad/chemo without further delay and is now cancer free 6 years.
