Thought ya'll might enjoy a few fishing pics from my tour in Alaska.

My son with a shrimp fresh from the shrimp pot near Valdez.

My Red Salmon in the Kenai River yards from the Russian River.

My Deshka River King Salmon. I thought he was pretty nice until...

My brother-in-law's KING Salmon...

Dad got skunked on Kings. Had several hooked but they won the contests, so...I too him to Prince William Sound. Here's his Yellow-Eye Perch...

Then he caught a nice Halibut that even had him break a sweat...

Great fish and terrific scenery. How long was this fishing trip? How much should a person budget to do one like it?

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Palmer,

Are you talking about my trip or TrapperP's? I can't get his pics to open so I'm not quite sure.

Palmer,

I was stationed in Alaska for two years so that helped. The Kings were taken on the Deshka River with Blaine Miller, a fishing guide and Air Nat'l Guard SNCO out of Kulis ANGB in Anchorage. I believe he ran about $125 a head. The Red Salmon were right off the public landing on the Kenai Peninsula where there's a "ferry" crosing. No need for a guide, but you'd wnat to check with the Game & Fish folks to see when they'll be running again. There were so many they were bumping against our legs. We took the halibut and 'perch' out of Whittier with Jay on the T-Rex chartered through Bread-n-Butter charters. He too was about $125 a head. We've gone ith him three time and limited out on 'buts every time...with a salmon shark thrown in to keep it interesting. The halibut out of Whittier don't seem to match the size of the Homer fish...but who the heck can eat a 200lbs fish anyway?

I reckon, if you nail down good dates for the Reds, you could do the one-week trip for:
$600 airfare
$500 auto rental
$125 guide for saltwater
$125 guide forr freshwater
$200 food
...or something like that...add $300+ for a black bear license in the Fall (no Reds though) and you'll seem them above treeline almost every day. Lots of Grayling (higher lakes), Rainbow, and Dolly Varden on the Kenai Peninsula as well. There were some huge Rainbows (catch and release) when the Reds were spawning, gobbling up eggs and rotted salmon flesh.

Man, I miss Alaska.

Beautiful sunset here.http://f3.yahoofs.com/users/42067a74ze1f1b849/40b8re2/__sr_/8ad5re2.jpg?photnDFBZEaa5Qdn[/IMG]
Mt St Elias - just over 18,000ft - I think.
Couple of silvers here - 12 3/4 # & 14#.

This guy was 16#.

And some people just can't get with the program of what you are supposed to catch, etc.!

Alaska - truly a great place.
