Capt. PurvisBack from Isla
Just got back from Isla Mujeres. Fishing was good but nothing like 10 years ago. We caught 16 Sails the first day of fishing and 20 the second day. Saw hundreds of sails and had the opportunity to catch several more but missed them on the hook or jumped off. Still a great fishery. I love watching all of the fish around the bait balls.
We followed the local rules of bird fishing and did not cast into the bait balls. If spinner fishing was accepted you could easily catch as many sails you wanted in a day.

FrostbitWe had a ball (bait ball that is). The fishing is fast and furious when you are on the bite. We actually had multiple double hook ups and one triple which is nothing short of controlled chaos.
The 58 foot fishing yacht was incredible and came in handy in some choppy seas. Some hilarious moments with Joyce getting buried in a stern wave while fighting sails added to the fun. She gets a small bath in this video clip.
It's a unique fishery we would love to experience again.

FrostbitHere's another clip of Joyce catching the same fish taken with my camera.
The back story:
This is the third Sailfish of a triple hook-up. Our friend Richard and I had gotten our fish to the boat to be broken off while Joyce's took a long run in the opposite direction almost spooling her reel.
This is the boat in reverse helping Joyce get some line back and the finale. She fought this fish for quite a while, took a drenching while doing so.
Cheers
Jim
