Went fishing for Stripe Bass with David Hare of Alexander City guide Service. First went in Dec. and had so much fun decided to go back in April. The spring fishing is a little different in that you won't catch as many fish but the fish you catch are larger with a good chance of a 20 plus pounder. It was cloudy with light rain off and on but everybody caught fish and had a great time. This one was pushing 40#. They released it so others will have the opportunity to experience catching a trophy like that.

I had more fun watching others catch fish, especially the kids, than catching them myself.

My wife loves fishing and it was one of the first things we did when we started dating.

Just a fun family time on the lake.

A day of days. Brings back memories of the Santee Cooper Lakes in the 1980's. You all fishing live shad or herring?

Shad, while trolling, and good size ones. We even caught 4 bass.

Yeah, a lot of folks don't realize largemouth will school. They'll strike big live baits too. In the late 70's and early '80s, we used to stalk and hunt stripers. We'd runout to the river channel in the lake, shut down and drift. Each fisherman and the guide would have binos and scan for birds. The schooling stripers would attract gulls and once spotted, we would crank up and race in - cutting the engine and coasting in. Once near the school, we cast Shimmy Shads. Most times two jerks was all it took. Game on! Filled many catch boards at the dock.

Another neat method was taught to me by a guide. He had a 5 hp outboard mounted on the transom. He would find stripers on the fish finder, then put down live shad and drift. All the while running the outboard in idle. The vibrations attracted the fish and we always scored big.
