yamaha four stroke problems?

I bought a new boat last June with a 2006 Yamaha 4 stroke 150. The first trip out, it stalled after I shifted into gear and eased the throttle forward. Idle was fine. Under power was nice. A 21 foot sailfish going 45 miles an hour with a 150. Nice. Stalling bugged me, so I brought it in. Ten hours on the hour meter and no problems found. Dealer couldn't get it to misbehave. Next time out, it was stalling. Twelve hours on the meter and they couldn't get it to stall. I put the owner of the marina in it and got it to stall on the second try. He called Yamaha. They sent a tech with a laptop. He found the throttle position sensor wasn't set right and adjusted it. I took it out and it stalled a couple times. Yamaha sent a senior tech from Wisconsin and he took apart my gas tank, changed my fuel lines, a bunch of stuff. Something that I didn't expect... The primer bulb was supposedly installed wrong. There's an arrow on the bulb that is supposed to be pointing up. He zip tied it to something so it sat up. After that, the boat seemed to be good. I went out a couple more times before the season ended and it did not stall. Yamaha guy scratched up the bonnet and hit a rock with the lower unit. Before I put up to boat in October, he came to the house and replaced the lower unit and gave me a new bonnet for the engine. Where I'm at right now, I don't know if I should be happy to have my problems resolved or if I should be upset I lost half the season to supplying my boat to repair people. My friends think Yamaha should have replaced the motor and I shouldn't have had to drop off my boat throughout the summer. What would be your thoughts.

I hear a story like your (on various motor brands) once or twice a year. I have never heard of a factory rep coming down to fix it. I'd say you get exceptional service!

Yeah, you apparently needed the help with a shaky motor. It sounds like you got a lemon, and I would ask for a replacement motor if you have any additional trouble, but it does sound to me like they worked pretty dang hard to fix the problems. That would be worth something in my book, as I've been hung out to dry personally in your situation...

Good luck!

I recently heard of a Yamaha problem. It was difficult to diagnose but they finally found it was a fuel problem and they had to make engine mods. If you mixed NY fuel and NJ fuel the different additives in each states fuel could interact and gum things up !!!This was told to me by a friend who works at a marina in the NY/NJ area. Eeker
