Where would you recommend for big pike in Canada?

Manitoba. We fished at Kississing Lake Lodge late in the year. It's a fly-in operation. Very nice. http://kississinglodge.com/ We caught pike to 43" and some very big walleye. (Could have caught bear and caribou if we wanted.)

1. The food was excellent.
2. The logistics of getting there and back were handled very well.
3. The people are easy to work with, both online and onsite.

The negatives -

1. Take your own rods / reels. Their gear is crap.

2. Check out the boat they assign you. If it is not up to snuff tell them to change it out.

3. If you find your guide tailing another boat all the time, find out whether he really knows the lake. They will bring in outside guides if the are very busy.

These are all questions you need to ask before plunking down your money.

Ross,

I can highly highly highly recommend Scott Lake Lodge.

It is not cheap, but it is first class all the way.

My son and I are going to Scott Lake on Sunday. Our guide (Jan Phoenix) has been fishing at Scott Lake since 2000, and he's not the most senior guy at Scott Lake. Most of the guides have 10+ years at Scott Lake, and several have 20+ years at Scott Lake.

Last year on our fly-outs, my son and I averaged about 100 to 120 pike per day. My son caught a 46" pike. My biggest pike was 44", and I had one at the boat that was probably 48". We caught a lot of pike that were between 33" and 38".

We spent very little time on lake trout, probably no more than 4 or 5 hours on the entire trip. I still caught Lake Trout that were 45", 43" and 42". My son also caught a 41" lake trout.

We did a little fly fishing for grayling for about 2 hours on 1 day, and caught a bunch of grayling between 14 and 18".

They publish a little 2 sheet paper everyday called the "Tundra Times". The Tundra Times lists the trophy fish that were caught the day before. It also has the dinner menu and fly-out schedule,

Look through a couple of these reports to get an idea of the big fish caught.

They consider a "trophy fish" to be a Pike at 40", Lake Trout at 35" and Grayling at 15".

Check out at the August 13th Tundra Times. One angler on an August 12th fly-out trip, caught Pike that were 40.5", 43.5", 45.5", 47.5" and 48.5".

Each day you can either have a shore lunch, where the guide cooks up a fresh pike that you just caught. In 20 minutes the pike goes from swimming in the lake to swimming in cooking pan. Alternatively, the kitchen will make sack lunches. We normally only do 1 shore lunch on each 5 day trip, because the fishing is so good that we don't want to use up time on the shore lunch. Some people do shore lunches everyday. I also understand that approach, because the shore lunches are pretty relaxing.

The fly-outs are not included in the package price, and are not cheap. However you will be the only boat on a big ass lake. On our trip next week, we are planning to do 3 fly-out days, and 2 days fishing on the home lake.

The boats and motors are in great shape.
I use their rods, but bring my own fishing reels (idiot-proof shimano baitcasting reels).
Most people don't bother bringing rods or reels. They have shimano spinning reels with St. Croix rods.
No one brings any fishing lures.

The dining lodge is top notch. It has a cool little bar.
There is a huge deck, which is a great spot to have a drink watch the sunset and tell fishing stories.
The food is outstanding.

They have a nice little pro shop stocked with logo'd jackets, shirts, gloves, hats and other stuff.
They have WiFi.
The cabins are great. Plenty of hot water for the shower.
The shore staff will bend over backwards for the guests.

The lodge is in extreme northern Saskatchewan, like less than a mile from the NWT border. Most of the fishing is done in the Northwest Territories. Last year a couple boats saw musk ox on the shore.

Our trips have only been in August. Maybe we have been lucky, but we have had great sunny weather for the most part, and were able to see the Northern Lights. On each 5 day trip, we have had 1 day with a couple hours of rain.

The Northern Light are also cool to see at night. You can get on a Northern Lights List. Someone from the shore staff will knock on your cabin door around midnight to let you know the Northern Lights are out. My son signs us up for that.

Scott Lake always has a booth at the Dallas Safari Club Convention....(or I guess now the Atlanta Safari Club Convention). You should talk to them, if you are interested in Big Pike.

I have done a reasonable amount of hunting and fishing in North American, Latin America and Africa, and this is the most WORRY-FREE trip that we ever do.

Again,it is not a cheap trip. However if you want to go to a first class operation and fish with guides that have 10 to 30 years of experience at this lodge....Scott Lake is the way to go.

Go Duke!!

My son and I just got back from Scott Lake Lodge. The weather was a bit of a problem. We didn't have rain but it was really windy. In spite of that we still caught a lot of fish.

My son caught our biggest Pike (46") and Grayling (20"). I caught our biggest Lake Trout (44").

As always the food at the lodge was great. We had a couple awesome shore lunches. One shore lunch was Pike, Shrimp and Mushroom Fettuccine.

We saw several musk ox on one of our fly outs. My son got some great photos of a musk ox bull that came down to the shore line.

The logistics of getting from Edmonton to the Lodge were flawless.

It was an incredible trip in spite of the windy weather.

Go Duke!!
