Dogwoods Blooming in the Fall?

I was out in the woods and was admiring the red leaves on this dogwood tree and noticed there were 3 or 4 flowers on it. Smaller than spring flowers and not quite as bright. There was a lot of flower buds not open yet, so if the frost doesn't get them, that's going to be a pretty tree with red leaves and flowers, too. About a month ago, forsynthia (sp) bushes in my mom's yard were blooming. Must be Indian Summer.
