Razorbills, Puffins and Northern Gannets
In Brittany last week I decided to take a quick boat trip to some islands just off the coast of the town called Perros-Guirec. It was foggy and the seas were not at all calm. Terrible conditions to take pictures of the birds we expected to see. I learned that the Razorbill is considered to be the rarest bird found on French soil and Puffins are almost never seen. With its six-foot wingspan, the Northern Gannet is the largest seabird to nest in France.

I used a Nikon D7000 with a Nikkor 300m AF-S f/4 lens. The boat was rocking so much I'm surprised I was even able to get any birds in the frame. I had to take dozens of photos just to get two that aren't too blurry from motion or out of focus (thank you Nikon for 1/8000th of a second). Should you ever visit Brittany I highly recommend this two and a half hour excursion to see some rare and beautiful birds that few ever see.

Most of these were taken at between 20 and 40 yards. We were on a boat and the seas weren't very calm.
