Twice in the past couple of weeks,I have seen an Eastern Wood-Pewee alight on the tin roof of my workshop during the mid afternoon. At that time of the day,the roof is too hot to touch for more than a few seconds, yet the bird will spread it's wings and lie flat on the roof for at least a minute at a time. I thought maybe the bird was trying to kill lice with the heat, any other ideas? WC

That is very interesting observation. You're probably on the right track about it killing lice. I didn't think the birds liked heat that much with all their insulating feathers. The black grackels seem to have the hardest time of it. On hot days, they go around with their mouths open in a constant pant. Plinker aim small, hit small
