On the Gasconade river there is a hole in solid rock that a good sized tree grows out of. It makes me wonder how many seeds one would have to put in there to get one to take hold and produce a tree like this one.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

It is not uncommon in Texas to find a prickly pear growing in a tree. Birds crap or drop the seeds into a hollow from a broken limb or into a crotch. The prickly pear can grow almost anywhere.
