I have around 750gb of music, and it's steadily increasing, stored on two LaCie, one terebyte external hard drives. One drive is a primary and the second is a backup of the first. On each drive I have folders A-F, G-M, N-R, and S-Z. The size of each folder is 260gb, 227gb, 102gb, and 175gb respectively. The sub-folders are arranged by the artist first name. I also have two "extra" WD external hard drives of 250gb and 500gb neither of which is being used (the size of the music library outgrew both drives). Both "in use" externals (LaCie) are nearing the end of their storage capacity. I would like some ideas on where to go from this point possibly using the four externals I currently own. However, I'm willing to purchase other devices to maintain the library and backup. Thank you for your consideration.

I'm impressed, I thought I had a lot of music. "When doing battle, seek a quick victory."

Saeed - Thank you for the link. Drobo is a very interesting product. Specialist - Probably half of my music was generated by UK artists and another 25% other European. A very prolific musical continent.

Now I'm looking for some African stuff, Tuareg Rock bands, protest writer Maiko Zulu, whatever's cool. I'm into Classic Rock, my girl likes all the ethnic stuff. "When doing battle, seek a quick victory."

I have three by Tinariwen. I believe he's a Tuareg rocker from Mali(?) and quite a few single cuts of "native", country representative, African music. I'm into "pretty" music regardless of the genre. I'm listening more and more to the female vocalists of the '30s, '40s, and '50s. There seems to be a quality about them that is difficult to find in the singers of today. You're certainly in a great place for Classic Rock.

Unfortunately, I don't do "Real Player". I do have the Alison Krauss "A Hundred Miles Or More" which has the cut "Down To The River To Pray". She is excellent.

I just checked "CharlieGillett.com" and there are archives of his show which play fine on my computer. Very interesting.

Real player banned here as well. I think we have to use the BBC player for their stuff. "When doing battle, seek a quick victory."

With that many files, you're getting beyond the limits of "human based" organization, and it's time to use a database application of some sort. NRA Life Member testa virtus magna minimum
