I'm looking to possibly do an Aoudad hunt where shots are going to range from 200 to 300 yards. I know the .257 Weatherby is known for its flat shooting, but does it have the knock down power to cleanly take a 350lb animal at these distances? I shoot the 100 grain TSX bullets out of my .257.

Dthfrmv I shot a 366 lbs Boar Black Bear @200 yards. Hit the bear in the front left shoulder and the 115 grain Nosler Partition lodged in the skin on the opposite rump. Bullet traveled through 5 1/2' to 6' of muscle. Drop him in his tracks, the bear never knew what hit him.
Also shot a 301 lbs Mountain Goat @ 225 yards had complete pass through with two shots in the shoulder. The first shot did him in. Shot second time just for insurance.
No matter what people say this was Roy's favorite caliber. He tested this rifle in Africa by shooting Zebra's in the guts @ 400 yards with one shot kills. Trying to proof is theroy on hydrosatic(sp) shock. Good-Shooting

If there ever was a sleeper cartridge that I suspect 80% of hunters would love to shoot, and get the on game performance from it, it's ole Roy Weatherby's 257 wby mag. He was right, it is an awesome cartridge. I can fully appreciate why he would say that. I have never shot a harder hitting, or flatter shooting cartridge in my life.

Another vote for the wonderful .257 Ackley Improved. Weatherby like performance with much less powder. I've never killed a moose with mine but a Bull Elk I remember well, didn't know the difference.... Stepchild

Two pieces of good news for you: A .257 Weatherby ain't that little, and an Aoudad ain't that big. The former will do just fine on the latter.
