Thinking about rebarreling my 22-250 into 250 Savage. Would like to use 85 grain Nosler BT or Silvertips. Anybody have any experience with loads or rifles?

Barrel up with a 1:10 twist, get a few pounds of Re-15 -- and you're all set.

I have one in a 53 year old M99 Savage and an old style M77 Ruger. 1:10 twist is definatly the way to go. My Ruger likes Varget better than RL-15, but neither is bad. 100 gr Hornady flat base bullets are great on deer, while the 75's either hp or v-max make a great walk around varminter.

RL 15 works great,(haven't tried Varget yet) 75gr Vmax for varmints and a 100gr for deer as suggested and you will wonder why it has taken you so long to discover the 250. I have about 3500 rounds through the current barrel and sadly it is showing the signs of too many prairie dogs to fast. Despite the fact the 257DGR is a superior cartridge the 250 Sav will always have a place in my gun cabinet. With the 25" barrel 3400fps with 75gr, 3200-3250-85gr, and 3000- 3050 with 100gr and the brass is on 10-12 times.

The 250 Sav is a great round. Mine is on an Encore with a 16 1/4" barrel. My velocities are lower than the rest of the fellows mentioned to be sure but I use a 100 gr Ballistic Tip for deer and 75 gr V-Max for crows and 'chucks.

The lower MVs that I get keep that 100 gr Ballistic Tip happy and don't turn it into the time bomb that B-Tips can be.

My short barrel makes the Encore into a handy little gun for Cedar Swamps and the thick brush. I have been thinking about buying a Model 7 and rebarreling it to 250 for my son when he gets old enough to hunt with Dad. You won't regret it. Sean

I have a 250 savage m700classic in a custom stock & It's really a neat gun. My light laod is 85gr Bal. tips with h4895 & my heavy is 120 speer flat bases with imr 4350. The 120 only goes about 2,500 fps but really kills dear. With the 85gr bullets it's like a 243. My gun shoots both bullets sub 3/4"@100 yds.

I'va had a number of 250-3000s, including a few 700 classics. The 77 and 77 RL and 77 RSI (I think) are also floating around out there. Quite a few rebarreled mausers in this cartidge as well.

My current 250-3000 is on a 722 action with a 22.5" pac-nor in a 700 "mountain rifle" contour. 10" twist, holds about 0.75 MOA with good loads. Fine round with which I have taken 50-60 deer - very effective. I like the 100-120 grains bullets. In fact, my 722 is throated a bit longer than SAAMI specs to match better to the heavier bullets.

David, I did just what you propose last year, putting a Douglas XX barrel on a 700 SA Remmy. It prefers H380 for the BT's, shooting reliably in the 1/2" range at 100 meters from a rest of course. The 100 Gr. Partitions actually shoot better by a small amount, the powder of choice being RX15. I can only estimate velocities at the moment, but think they are in the 3000/2800 fps range respectively.

The top group came from a cold clean barrel, the bottom group followed. 100 gr. Partitions over RX15 in the mid 30 grain realm. Fed 210 Primers, 2.6" OAL.

Never said I didn't know how to use a .22, just said I didn't have much use for them.

I've got a Remington Model 7 MS I bought used from a guy in .250-3000. Shoots like a house afire. I use mostly 100 grain bullets at around 2800 fps. Deadly on whitetails. Never hunted anything bigger.

I also have a German double rifle from the 1920s in .250-3000. For reasons I cannot explain, it regulated with 117 grain Nosler ballistic tips at about 2450. Two shots within 1-1/2 inches at 100 if I do my part, which is not too bad for a leaf sight and 50 something year old eyes.
