Anyone have a Stevens 200? I realize they are the economy rifle of the Savage line, but how do they compare? Do all the aftermarket triggers, stocks, and barrels work with the Stevens 200? I'm looking at one to possiby shoot for a while and maybe make into a project rifle.

Thanks.

Roll EyesI own 4 Stevens 200s,one in .223. It was shooting MOA out of the box. Triggers are stiff but can be easily reworked or replaced with adjustable triggers. I am pleased with all four. Best buy in the market. thumbroger

Roger,

how are you and those barrel swaps doing?

Shaw is finally suppose to ship the barrel I have been waiting for since early September...

If it works out well, I was going to order a couple more for the Savage and Ruger Varmint rifles...

I reckon bartsche pretty well summed up my Stevens 308Win ... except mine is a 2MOA shooter with ADI ex-mil ammunition. Unsure what it'll do with "proper" ammunition at this stage. The earliest rifles had a poorer bluing finish than current rifles, and required the flashings to be shaved off the stock. Like most true bargains ... in hindsight I should have bought another in a long-action.
Aftermarket gear for the pre-AccuTrigger Savages should fit into the Stevens 200s, but if you re-trigger and re-stock it's hardly a bargain anymore. Great entry point into a budget Savage build-up though.
Cheers...

My grandson's .25-06 (fac bbl) and .338-06 (A&B bbl) switches barrels nicely. Both shoot well with the 25 under an inch and the 338 at an inch with minimal work-up.
PROBLEM: Keeping grandson from changing the barrels weekly. Roll Eyes

Savage and Stevens plastic stocks are both junk. A new stock is a given either way.

I figure a Stevens rifle with an aftermarket Sharpshooter trigger is still cheaper than the same Savage with an Accutriger and you still need a stock.

Thanks for the input, I'm still kicking the idea around trying to figure out which way to go. I have a 12BVSS and want a lighter walk-around rifle with a good trigger and decent stock.
