I'm looking to develop a high velocity accurate load for a 243 70g Nosler BT out of a 24" barrel. Let me know what your experience has been in this area, especially Seafire2!!! | ||

TC: I don't know who this Seafire Character is ( but I 've heard some real bad rumors about him lately.. from the political forum and also for loading shotgun powder in rifle cartridges), but for velocity in a 243, along with accuracy, I am sure he would turn to H 414.. depending on what your rifle will take... 47.5 grains of H 414 with a large rifle primer and a 70 grainer will be in the neighborhood.. work up a little below this point... Some load data has been floating around that worked up to like 49 grains or so with it... That however has been the most accurate loads in my 243s with 70, 75 and 80 grain bullets...and that was after testing about 15 different powders... Velocity spread was the worst of any powder tested... with velocities for a 75 grainer in the 3675 to 3750 fps range... yet at 100 to 300 yds, it was the most accurate powder tested also... so I can live with the velocity spread if it doesn't matter on hitting the target with the same point of impact consistently... I'm funny that way.. if it is accurate I can live with eratic velocity spreads... work up and let us know how it works out... Life Member: The American Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Jan 20, 2009.. Several powders do well enough in my Browning Safari .243 HB with Nosler 70 gr BTips. The fastest I've used is IMR4320 and the slowest is V N160. All powders in this burning range seem to hit a sweet spot around 3575 fps from the 24" barrel. This is a one-half MOA bullet in both this gun and my HB .244. I've recently loaded some of the new IMR 4007 with this bullet in the .244 for the same 3575 fps. I'm sure it would do similarly well in a .243. Surprisingly, the very similar Sierra 70 gr Blitzking can be loaded identically to the Ballistic Tip in my .243 and yields the same velocity, accuracy, and point of impact. | |||

i use either 47 gr of 4350 or 47.5 gr of h414 with the 70 gr nosler | |||

Not a great 243 Shooter, but I have found that 41.2 Grains of Varget a 70BT will shoot exceptionally well for every 243 I use. The 42 grain load suggested by Nosler blows primers every time for me. DW | |||
