Hi everyone. I'm new to this end of the forums but used the classifieds many times. I have read a lot with never participated in the questions and answers. Ok for my question. Has anyone here used this bullet in either the 257 Bob, 25-06 or 257 Wby? I have the 257 and 25-06 and am getting a CDL-SF Roy next week and would like to know how these bullets work on deer sized game and the accuracy. I have a bunch(2800) of these bullets on hand and need to start using them. Thanks in advance. hunter718

In my 257 Robts they are pretty accurate, 3/4 inch. The thing I do not like about them is they are kinda like the Nosler BT, not quite as bad, in that they tend to be a little on the explosive side...in the 257 Robts. If you run them up to Roy's speeds or 25-06 speed I think you will have a real hand grenade. That said some people like an explosive bullet which is fine if ALL you are going to shoot is deer and varmints AND the only shot you plan on taking is a broadside heart/lung.
I shoot the 100gr TSX in both my Robts and have been VERY pleased with the result. If you want to go heavier, which I don't think is necessary, I liked the 110gr Nosler AB.
I would think a SST up to speed would really ruin a coyote's day!

I think perry is 100% correct. I tried them in a 257AI. Accuracy was good but terminal performance was not what I like. Got a email from Hornady in response to a question, saying that the SST's were designed for rapid expansion and shock effect....or something like that. I'd be careful with 'em at 25/06 or 257 Roy speeds.

EXCELLEBT POST!!!!!

There's a difference between the "very best" and "adequate"

The 117 SST is certainly adequate as a deer/pronghorn bullet and as a coyote bullet too! I have several boxes of them here in frontier label.

It is also among the better choices for the Roberts case (as well as the .25-06) and the Roberts is extremely flat shooting at (about) 3,000'/sec with that bullet.

If you have to be stuck with 2,800 of them then it's not a bad bullet to be stuck with.....be grateful!

If you'd like to trade a few of them for .224 diameter bullets I have a huge supply of 50 grain TNT, 50 grain V-Max moly and a few others to bargain with.

I'll trade at the ratio of 1.75 to 1....meaning 175 .224 bullets for 100 117 gr SSTs

Guys-Thanks for the responces. I kind of felt the same way about the SST's being a little soft for the Roy. I use the 139 SST's in my 280 and have been having excellent results(DRT and not tearing up the meat)) on deer. I use Horn. 100's in the 257 Bob and use 120 Horn. HP's(which I have been using since they came out with them because they work) in the 25-06. The Roy is going to be a whole new ball game with me. I kinda hate to pay for premium bullets for the Roy but may have to. I think there is a lot of hype today about bullets and clicks(I just don't know how we managed to sight in our scopes for the last 40 yrs. LOL) on scopes.

That 120gr Hornady HP is a pretty stout bullet. I bet it would work fine in your Roy.

The 120 HP has been my favorite 25-06 bullet for about 35 years. Everyone I loaded them for had no trouble and they were accurate. A friend that I worked with told me about them and he used them in a Roy. He really liked them. I have loaded 55Gr of the old Military 4831 for that long also but the supply is running low. I crono'd it at 3050 out of my Rem. BDL-SS in 25-06. I will be trying that bullet in the Roy for sure.

Hunter The 120 gr hornady is the most accurate bullet in my 257 Wby.I tried every 25 cal bullet on the market and was disappointed with the 2 inch or larger groups. The first 3 shot group I fired with the Hornady 120 went into about an inch. Playing with the seating depth has improved that a bit. I've taken a couple pretty big Manitoba whitetails with thta bullet and I have been pleasently surprized at how well it holds together even @ 257 Wby velocity. I've used it on Montana antelope as well and it works like lightning.

A've also used that bullet and can attest to it's value......a very fine bullet for the faster cases.
