Gents,
Picked up a couple actions tonite.
One is a low number 1903 in 30-06,gave $25.00...action is complete,no wood though...
Second is a Remington 1903A3 in .308 Norma Mag
again,no wood. Cost me $125.00 .I already have a P-17 in -06 so will probably dedicate the Springfield to cast low pressure loads once I find parts to complete this old guy.
Number 2 is over 3 million in number so Strength should be fine. A 'smith built this a long time ago and it has been sitting for 30 years all but forgotten. Nice Engraved bottom metal,Timney trigger,Douglas Barrel....It has a weaver rear base only so I will set it up with a leupold one piece base I will expect to find in my "stuff"
Who has stocks in both a original for the old guy and a Target stock for the 308 Norma ? Any other helpful hints out there ? TIA 45nut

Try Ebay for your stocks. springfields are hot right now, and there is a lot of surplus material coming out of the closets and going up for sale. There is several 03 sporter stocks on there now.
If your 03 serial number is under 825,000, it should not be firedaccording to Hatcher's Notebook.

Good luck! [Cool]

ANY '03-A3's are plenty strong enough for ANY round that is not too big around for the action. But, I would not use ANY low-number Springfield for ANY shooting, due to the brittle character of some of these actions-it is just not worth the risk, even if the one you have has been used for years. When one of these fails, it does so suddenly and with no warning whatsoever. They just shatter like glass!! The BEST of all Springfields are the "double heat-treated" ones made between the low numbered actions and the nickle-steel ones. A good Springfield sporter is one of the nicest rifles one can have, and they sure do feed smoothly!! [Big Grin]
