I was just thinking about selling my .250 Savage dies when someone posted about this rifle on another forum. They passed on it and I jumped on it. I have been a fan of the 54 and the .250 so a combination sounded good and the price was way to good to pass up. It is not a collector by any means but I want it for hunting so it is perfect. The old pad needs to go and will need a Buehler safety for a scope and should be good to go. I am thinking with the 1:14 twist the Barnes 80 gr TTSX Bullet should be a good choice

This is my Savage model 99 in .250-3000. I waited over four decades until I was able to find one. It shoots 100 yard groups less than an inch. I will use it this year for deer in PA. Most of my money I spent on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted

I have a beautiful Savage 99 Take Down and it shoots bench rest competition size groups with darn near any load and all to the same POI..Needless to say Ive owned it for a very long time, something unusual for me...I have shot many deer, an elk or two, and PG in RSA with it on one occasion...My .308 mod. 99F is my saddle gun for deer and elk with 165 gr. Noslers partitions for both. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Ray I have a 99E in 308 What powder do you like for 150’s and 165’s? Just starting to work up a load for Texas Hill Country deer. Thinking about Hornady SSTs. Thanks, BDM

Sendaro, That's as good bullet as any for whitetail in Texas. my go to load is 48 grs. of WW-748 with the 150 gr. bullet at 2800 FPS.. 46.5 with the 165 at 2685 FPS... The 99s are tricky, some take book max loads but most are two grs below max, so start two grs low and work up..The 99 with a too warm load will usually drop the lever just a fraction and you can feel that in your hand. if so cut back a grain or two.. For whatever reason the 99s I have like that WW-748 and take a max load, but won't take a max load with other powders so go slow working up loads. Other loads that work are 44 to 46 grs of RL-15 with 150s, most of mine take 43 to 44 grs. same for Varget, but I pretty well stick with WW-748.. I like the 99E Savage, it still has the rotor magazine and underlever safety, the woods a little plain, but wood never killed a deer.. Got the rifle in and a couple problems. The bolt serial number doesn’t match the rifle and for the life of me I can not get the safety to go on. I think I am going to send it back

I would like to buy it if that works for you, I can probably fix it, if not I'll hang it on the wall..I sure would like a 54 in 250-3000 for my sorta collection. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com
