May I suggest the miscellaneous forum..... This question is a great one but maybe not relevant to small/medium/ or large bores....

| I'm using 63gr Sierra's and near max load of Benchmark with BR4 primers. We have never lost a deer shot in the front end with this combination. We have generally used it inside 200yds. |

| What if they are under 200 yards?
62 TSX would make a big enough mess, but the brains of my state think that a shredded heart is merely a flesh wound.. |

| What state is that. Where I live a 55 gn bullet is legal. I believe that 62 gn tsx would do the job. |

| An animal wont know the difference in a few extra grains. What in the world do you think you can use where you don't have to wait for a good shot? If not a good shot you pass it up. More gun, more bullet, none of that compensates and makes a bad shot a good one. 55 grain Winchester bulk packed bullets--a cheaper cup and core does just fine placed in the right spot. |

| I understand about waiting for a good shot I have shot plenty of deer. I wait for a good shot no matter what Cal. I am shooting. There are plenty of deer where I am at last year I sat and watched 12 bucks one morning before I took one. I was just wanting a little bit better bullet for the last 2 years I used the winchester bullets. I started reloading and just wanted to make a good round is all |

| The 53 or 62 grain TSX pushed with BlC2 or Tac will give you great penetration and a nice wound channel. We have not had a shot over 200 yards, but 2 deer shot between 150 and 200 were complete pass throughs with tracking jobs of less than 20 yards each with the 53 grain. Both were mature does in the 120 - 130 pound hang weight range. I would not use the 223 past 200 yards unless you know you can put the bullet BETWEEN the ribs, good luck. |
