A fellow shooting a 22-250 at the range today mentioned that his factory ammo was rated at 4,000 fps. I asked about bullet weight and was told it was 45 grains.
I had my Pact PC2 already setup, so I asked if he'd like to chrono a few. He had 3 rounds left so we shot them through the screens.
Yikes! Low velocity was 4058, next round 4069, and the last was 4171. I checked the Winnie web site, and they list the USA brand (white box) with 45 grain bullet at 4,000 fps, number USA222502.
I would have believed 4,000+ with a 40 grain bullet, but 4050 with a 45 is SMOKIN' !!!
That "White Box Stuff" also comes in a 223 loading that they say is 3600!!! Never chronied any thru a rifle but did through an Xp-100 with 14.5 inch barrel and it averaged 3187!! Same 45 grain bullets! Scary thing was, the 223 ammo was accurate enough in that 223 that I just shot instead of trying to improve on it!! Have heard the same thing from other shooters about the 223 variety! GHD

Sorry, gents, I intended to word the posting so that it was obvious I was discussing Winchester (USA) white-box ammo. And it is the 40-round economy pack.
The shooter told me he got it at a discount store for around $16-17.
In the 3 rounds I chrono'd the extreme spread was over 100 fps; speed's great but I like consistency. And, the pressure has to be right at the redline (if not over) with this stuff. I'd expect this kind of velocity from a 22-250 Ackley, but not the original version.
I bet it's impressive when it makes contact with a varmint, though.
I have shot some of this white box 22-250 ammo and can tell you it is very hotly loaded. There is a big time recoil/noise difference between this stuff and my normal 38 grains h380 and a 55 grain bullet normal handload. this is even with a lighter 45 grain bullet. I have no doubt this stuff moves, it even slightly flatens primers in my ruger

I've shot this in my Encore before. It's pretty accurate. I believe the discount store the guy was referring to was Wal-Mart. I think it's $16.97 a box of 40 rounds or something like that.
