I can't help you with any real experence, with that rifle and cartridge combo, but, if I found one at a price I could afford I would probably buy it !

I have 2, a 270 Winchester and a 300 WSM. The only thing I did to either one was to fill the hollow buttstock with "Great Stuff" - the expanding foam insulation, to get rid of a slightly hollow sound.
If I do my part the 300 WSM pretty consistantly groups like this at 200yds with 180gr Failsafes:

It will do about the same clean bore or fouled.
The 270 Winchester shoots a little better yet. Here is a 300yd group with 130gr TSX's:

(I missed a bit of a wind shift)
I've had several Sako M-75's and they have all shot somewhere between very good and great. The Finnlites are just lighter versions that shoot just as good. I went to the store ready to buy another Finnlight in 270 WSM but someone beat me too it a while back.
I think they are fantastic rifles. If you can find one at a price you can afford I reccommend you buy it.

You won't go wrong with the finnlight. My 243 is wonderfully accurate printing 100gr norma ammo into 3/4" at 100yds. While being no light weight it is beautifully engineered. Mine is topped with a Swarovski 3-9x36. I can't imagine needing another rifle. The 260 is a wonderful cartridge...had it been available at the time that would be my choice of cartridge.
The sako's are beautifully made...you won't go wrong with anything with that name.

Gidday Guys,

I have been thinking of one of these as the ultimate deer rifle but would like to here if ythe 85 finnlight is out yet. I believe it would be lighter than the 75 and in 260 it would be a dream.

There is a Sako 85 260 that a guy has on trade me (on line auction here). He got it as a wedding present from his wife but had already ordered one himself and wants $2500 for it.

I am so tempted but would like to find out about the 85 finnlight first.

The 85 Finnlites aren't out just yet. IIRC they are due in the fall of 07.
I don't know what Sako's sell for in New Zealand but up here a Model 85 is $1200-$1400..................................DJ

Gidday DJ,

That is about the going price here (2500) but he is also throwing in a set of low optilock ring which go for about $250 here.

If it wasn't such a stressful performance getting a firearm out of the States I would probably get one from there.

He is a brave man to be selling his wedding gift from his wife I can tell you. Either that or he has decided the wedding was a mistake and is looking for an early end to it.

Stoney,
I've got the 75 finnlight in 6.5 x 55. It is accurate with all loads I've tried in it. Including 120-140 gr bullets and rl22. Same barrel, but long action.

$2500.00 for a 260!

That sounds spendy considering I paid $399.00 new in the box for one of my Rugers, and $349.00 for the other on sale...

I ended up with my VLS, in a trade for a Ruger 338 Win Mag, both brand new and unfired...the VLS owner, screwed up and wanted a Model 7, and for some reason, ordered a VLS thinking it was a model 7...

I got the Ruger, as a factory replacement for a 77/22 that was garbage out of the box, and I wasn't interested in waiting for 6 months until the next scheduled production run...

the 77/22 was bought at $349.00 at the time...

I am rich enough to be KIWI I guess!

Gidday Seafire,

It is a big price but that is what we have to pay to live in paradise. Also its a reason we don't own as many firearms as you guys.

$349 will get you a norinco JW15 22rf sans scope. A Ruger M77mkII goes for $1399 new (Stainless/Synthetic). A VX1 3x9 is about $450.

The finnlite will get a VXII 3x9 at $585 and the piece of crap burris on the model 7 260 will be replaced with a VXIII 1.5-5x20 at $779.

The model 7 will be my bush rifle with the finnlite handling everything else. Thats the plan anyway, just a matter of bucks.

Sounds like the NZ dollar is worth what the Canadian dollar was worth for quite a while...

I purchased a .260 Finn light 75 a couple months back and have been very impressed and well pleased. It is quite a shooter on several loads I had worked up for other 260's from 95gs to 140g s. Have been very impressed with how well barrel handles heat and it repeats accuracy for 5 consective rapid shots at 200yds. Have not been disappointed with it in any way. This is the sixth .260 I have owned and it is one of my favorites. The bolt was initialy tight and stiff until I got some grease and oil worked into it, slick now.
Hope it helps
Frank

I have a Sako 75 SS in .260 and it never ceases to impress. My best load for it with minimal testing is 38.2 gr Varget, Remington brass, CCI BR2 and Nosler 120gr BT. This will be my goto gun this year.

2500 for a Finnlight! Thats expensive!
But Seafire, although I respect your opinions, you just cant compare a Sako with a Ruger. Not on the same planet...
See the Sako is made in Scandinavia... Wink sofa

Gidday Guys,
The Kiwi Dollar is running at about 80 cents US at the moment so its not the exchange rate.

You know asti I think Seafire might know about things with a Scandanavian heritage and the supperior quality that brings with it.

Maybe Bill Ruger had some Danish, Swedish or Finn ancestry.

I have a finnlite in 243. A local long range hunting guru over here worked up a load for me using 2 x different bullets. The 100 grain sierra prohunter with 44 grains of AR2209 - shot approx .3 - .4 inch at 3000 fps. Also a 85 grain partition with 46 grains of powder, roughly the same group size but zipping along at 3200 fps. I beieve AR2209 has a similar burning rate to Win 760.

I have shot a number of deer now with this rifle and it is excellent. Would recommed a 75 finnlite (in any cal) to anyone.

It is well balanced and well made and a joy to carry round all day.
