anyone shot any game with this bullet. Im not a premium bullet fan but have a new 257 roberts and like the idea of 3400 fps out of the roberts for long range crop damage shooting. Ive had poor results with the old original copper bullets. the deer i shot with them tended to run off and die. They just didnt create a big enough wound channel. Im looking for more of a bang flop load. We shoot alot of deer every year and quick kills are more important then a bit of meat damage.

I have killed deer with little .243 TSX/TTSX and 270 TSX/TTSX and they work really well. I slammed some 80 grain TTSXs out of my 25-06 into water jugs and they held together at >3600 FPS I can't imagine them not working splendidly if you put them in a halfway decent place.

We have had good luck with the 80 grain Tipped TSX on antelope. I shoot a 25-06 and load them up to about 3600 fps and my dad shoots a 257 Wby Mag and loads them closer to 3900 fps.

We have shot several antelope with them and all have been one shot, drop in their tracks kills.

Last year my dad shot an antelope at a lasered 584 yards and that buck never even kicked. Same deal this fall, my dad and I both shot our bucks at around 300 yards and neither took a step.

I've got 'em loaded with a good stout measure of IMR-4350 in my 25-06 Remington, too. Haven't had the chance to point the rifle & load at game yet, but hope to soon.

Ought to be The Hammer! At least at the speed they're probably trucking along at; as I haven't had the chance to Chrony them over the winter.

My experience with Barnes are pretty much Cookie-Cutter holes on the off-side but let's see what the Blood-Shot effect is on X-Ring shots. If you're not too worried about such they ought to be just The Ticket!

I killed these with .257 Wby and 80gr TTSX at 3700 fps:

Pretty darned effective combo in my estimate.

Yo hondo,

Wow!

shocker

Nice Trophies!

From your photos; that terrain appears to be .257 Weatherby Magnum country to me! Far,wide & flat. Great cartridge choice IMO.

If your Bob won't bang flop with a cup and core bullet your too far away. How far away are you shooting these deer.

I shot 5 deer last year, Feb., 2010 on an MLD property in west Texas, all were heart lung shots, all with 117 grain Remington Core Locts none of them were bang/flops, but none of them ran more than 30 yards after the shot and all were recovered.

I shot 4 deer on the same property this past Feb. with 115 grain TSX's, all were heart/lung, all were recovered, none were bang/flop.

Wound damage from both bullets over the two years was comporable, dead animal no excessive meat loss.

Unless your only taking head/neck/spine shots, there are very few bang/flops with heart/lung shots.

Ranges were 125 to 230 maybe 250 yards.

I really don't put much stock in all of the Bang/Flop kills I see people writing about.

Hit them behind the shoulder with enough steam and lead and they bang flop in my experience.

I would say 95% of my kills are bang flop. Especially on shots over 200 yards. But I usually use something in .30 caliber.

And I have shot white tails, heart/lung shots at 50 yards and over 100 yards with 250 Barnes bullets out of my 375 H&H, and none of them were bang/flop.

I have shot white tails with stuff from a 22 Hornet to a 458 Win Mag, and my preferred shot is heart/lung, and I seriously doubt that I have had more than about 10% of those animals were bang/flop kills.

I ain't saying it can't be done, I just ain't seen it happen very often.

CHC: I keep very careful records of the game I shoot. Of the last 25 deer taken all but one were "bang flop" as you say. The were taken with various cartridges (257, 257AI, 25/06, 264, 270 270WSM 280, 300sav). All the bang flops were high shoulder shots. The only one that was not was a small axis doe, shot thru the lungs behind the shoulder with a 25/06 at about 125 yds. It was fairly open country so I could watch her run about 75 yards.

IMO, if you place the bullet in the right place, you can get a bang flop very consistently. YMMV

olarmy, go back and look at what I posted, I said heart/lung shots.

High shoulder shots are Not heart/lung shots.

High shoulder shots usually hit close enough to the spine to cause enough peripheral shock that tha animal will go down on the spot and usually one or both shoulders are broken, further putting the animal down.

Heart/lung shots, or at least the ones I have been makingh, don't involve the shoulders, just the heart or more usually just the lungs.

Most of the few animals I have shot that went bang/flop were high shoulder shots, at least one elk, one caribou, one mulie and a few white tails. A few other whitetails were neck shots so they went straight down.

I know everyone has had their own experiences, but over the years I have been hunting, the articles I have read by folks like O'Connor and Keith, and discussions I have had with fellow hunters, heart/lung shots rarely produce a bang/flop reaction.

At no point did I say it could not happen, I just said that I ain't seen it happen as often as some folks claim that it does, and I have had a little experience shooting critters.

ok, sorry. Misunderstood/misread your point. I agree that H/L shots, while quickly fatal, often do not produce a B/F. IME it happens a higher percentage of the time with high velocity/fast expanding bullet.
