I have handloaded and shot the 22-250 Rem round for a couple years now. I have not however shot this particular gun (Rem 700 SPS Varmint)(Best group at 100yds was .689)past 200 yards. Anyon have Ballistics on this round say out to 800 yards? Loads for long range ( rifle twist is 1 in 14 in my rifle)? Thanks

Have for sometime now shot the 22-250 in long range matches, 6-1000yd, prone/sling/ style, and it does very well indeed. However, my rifles have been rebarreled to either 7 or 8 twist in order to use the heavier bullets, 75,77,80 or 90's. With the 80-90 weight range, ballistics are very similar to the 308 w/ the 155 Sierra Palma bullet. Did attend a match sometime ago and shooter was using your set up, 14twist, 55gr bullets, at the 600yd line and his score was in the high 180's(IIRC he dropped some 13 points.) He was an experienced shooter, Master Level, but the wind kicked up as always and hurt his score. I was scoring/spotting for him and he did much better than I would have predicted. Approximate, but if your rifle is on at 100yds you can dial in some 25 moa(1/4moa clicks would require 100clicks) of elevation and that should put you on target at 800yds. Might be a bit high and not saying this will put you in the X ring, but will give you a starting point. As for powder, I use either IMR4064 or Varget, both work fine, Varget easier to load due to short cut powder. Check out AmmoGuide.com for some good data.

+1 Punch in your variables and the numbers it spits out will be very close......at least, they have been for me out to 400 yards. US Army 1977-1998

My fast twist 22.250 and 1 in 12 twist 22.250s mirror MFD's exactly... right down to the 4064 powder recommendation..4320 and 4895 can also be used... 80 grain A Maxes, I settled on a charge of 32.5 grains of 3031 in my rifle. That was a little better for accuracy at the longer ranges 600+ to 800..

Without heavy bullets, the 22-250 will die pretty quick. With those heavy bullets, it should perform similar to the 308, could do better depending on barrel length and the exact bullet. Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too! Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

I shoot my 22.250 occasionally in F class to 1,000 yards but it has a 1:10" twist barrel. I shoot the 69 grain SMK's and as long as the wind isn't too bad, they work fine. The middle gun is the 22.250 (the top gun is a 6.5x284 and the bottom one is a 243) Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. Them 80 grain a-Maxs sure slap the snot out of a 1 inch thick steel plate at 500 yards. It cuts a dimple in the steel about a 1/2 diameter. Mine has a 1 in 9 twist.Shoots about 3 inches at that range so far.

What is the rate of twist on the factory barrels that come with the rifle from the factory?

Most are 1:12 or 14. I think Savage makes a 1:9 22-250. Might take a look at the 52 JLK Low Drag--i think that bullet has the highest BC for a 14 twist at .30 Talked a guy into trying tham out of his Cooper 22-250 awhile back and he was beating everything else he'd tried up to that point--vertically and horizontally. I have had great results from factory tubes at longer ranges with these JLK FB bullets. www.swampworks.com Steve
