Got out Saturday night to shoot a few .22 shells with my two boys and in the process I got to shoot one group out of my .257 Weatherby with a load that I have wanted to proof for quite a while. I have attached a photo of the target with the applicable information. The only thing not listed on the target is the velocity as it was too late to chronograph these three shots. However, I have chronographed this load before and it averages right at 3,525 fps.

One other side note that I found interesting and encouraging is that the brass used to fire this group was Winchester brand 7mm Remington Magnum, sized to .257 Roy in the sizing die. It had not been fired...virgin brass.

Needless to say I am pretty stoked about this load.

I agree. I loved my 257 WBY. It was a killer round out to 300 (as far I can shoot) I always used the 117grn round nose and a 100 grn speer. Out of my accumark. Have fun with it.

I am shooting the 110's with RL 25 out of my Christian Arms .257 Roy with similar results...I've taken three shots in the field with the gun...The first was an antelope at 276 yards, went down like he was struck by lightning...The second was a 130 inch buck at 75 yards, went down like he was struck by lightning...The third was a 154 inch 4x4 shot a 425 yards, double lunged and ran about 75 yards...I love the load and the gun...Looking forward to trying it on Caribou next fall...Give us some more specs on your load...

Nice group !
I am a fan of the .257s At the velocity you are getting,I can't say if the bullet will hold together for you.
But no way to know for sure till you shoot somthing.
They are a little spendy but if rifle likes the 115 grain barnes tripple shock you should be able to kill most anything you want in the lower 48. It would,nt be my elk round of choice but I bet it would do the trick prety well if it was all you had...tj3006

Leverboy,

Nice group. What kind of velocity are you getting with that load? I have a load worked up for my gun that will push a 115 grain Combined Tech BST 3,400 fps using 70.0 grains of IMR 7828 in WW brass, or 71.0 grains of the same in Weatherby brass.

300 that load flies at 3250 out of the Vanguard. I am a new .257 Weatherby shooter and have only owned it for a couple months. I have since zeroed the scope 2"high at 100 and thats the load i have settled on. I know with some more experiment i should be able to get more velocity but i am very happy with the accuracy.

Leverboy,

If you are getting that kind of velocity with that kind of accuracy on a consistent basis your search is over. Anything further is just experimentation for fun.

Congratulations on getting your .257 to perform for you.
